 India Donates 2,000 MT of Rice to Sudan as Humanitarian Assistance

The Government of India, under its continued commitment to humanitarian support to the people of Sudan, handed over 2000 MT of rice today, at a ceremony in Port Sudan.

The humanitarian consignment was handed over by Mr. G. S. Joshi, Charge d’Affaires of India in Sudan to Mr. Ahmed Mohamed Osman, Acting Humanitarian Aid Commissioner of Sudan on 29 July 2025.

Mr. Joshi in his remarks said that “India stands in solidarity with the people of Sudan during these challenging times. This support reflects our commitment to humanitarian relief and long-standing bilateral ties.

As part of earlier humanitarian assistance to Sudan:

•          In March 2025, India provided 2 tons of life saving medicines.

•          In earlier humanitarian assistance, 25 tons of medical supplies were dispatched to Sudan in May 2023.

•          India continues to invest in capacity-building initiatives and development partnerships across sectors through grant of scholarships and training programmes.

This humanitarian gesture further strengthens the enduring friendship between India and Sudan and reflects India’s role as a reliable development partner in Africa.
