Supply of  two tons of medical assistance from India to Sudan 

 

         The Embassy of India in Sudan is pleased to announce the successful handover of two tons of essential medical supplies to Sudan. This underscores the enduring partnership and friendship between the people of India and Sudan, reflecting India's commitment to support Sudan in its healthcare endeavors. This initiative is part of India's broader commitment to fostering international cooperation and solidarity in the field of healthcare. The Embassy of India in Sudan remains dedicated to working closely with Sudanese authorities to further strengthen bilateral ties and contribute to the welfare of the people of Sudan.

 

2.      Indian Coast Guard Ship Sachet (ICG Ship Sachet) has arrived at Port Sudan at 0800 hrs, on 11 March 2025 (Tuesday) carrying a shipment of two tons of humanitarian assistance containing essential medical assistance including anti-Cancer and Emergency use Medicines from the Government of India for the friendly people of Sudan.

 

3.      The handover ceremony took place at the North Port in Port Sudan. H.E. Mr. Khalid Ali Aleisir, Minister of Culture and Information of Sudan, H.E. Ms. Salawa Bonia, Commissioner, Humanitarian Aid Commission, Mr. Gilani Mohammed Gilani, Director General of the Sea Ports Corporation, H.E. Ambassador Mr. Kamal Bashir from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sudan, Coast Guard officers and officials from the Embassy of India were also present during the handing over ceremony. On behalf of Government of India, Charge d’Affaires Mr. G. S. Joshi handed over the medical supplies to H.E. Minister of Health Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim for the friendly people of Sudan. 

 

4.      Charge d’Affaires emphasized India's solidarity with the people of Sudan.  The medical supplies, which include [Anti-Cancer and Emergency use Medicines], will bolster Sudan's healthcare infrastructure and enhance its capacity to address public health challenges.

 

5.      The humanitarian assistance of life saving medicines in March 2025 and our earlier assistance of 25 tons medicines in May 2023, reflects continued support of the Government of India to the friendly people of Sudan.  India is also a committed partner in the socio-economic development of Sudan through training programmes including in health sector vide Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) courses and Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR) scholarships.    This is also in line with India's time-tested principle of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” i.e. World is one family and also guided by Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's vision of South-South cooperation and keeping Africa on top priority.
